Kindergarten 1st Grade 2nd Grade 3rd Grade 4th Grade 5th Grade 6th Grade 7th Grade 8th Grade Eighth Grade Eighth grade year is the culmination of the students' experiences at All Souls Catholic School, and a year of transition as students prepare to enter the next level of their educational career - high school. Students become leaders of the school, setting an example of responsibility and strong character for the younger students. Eighth grade students prepare academically and socially in order to achieve success in high school. They are expected to actively participate in all subjects and demonstrate various skills and concepts as outcomes of their learning. The eighth grade religion program focus on faith: believing, worshiping, living, and growing in God's image. Students examine in depth the early apostolic church, the growth of Christendom, and the Reformation and renewal of the church. In literature, students read novels and stories and interpret reading materials using sequence, main idea, supporting details, cause and effect, predicting outcomes, and drawing conclusions. Literary techniques such as plot, setting, theme, characterization, and author's purpose are discussed and examined. History comes alive in the eighth grade classroom as the students learn about the beginnings of our nation and the workings of our local, state and federal governments. Students critically analyze historical documents such as the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Perhaps the greatest highlight of their school year is the class' trip to Washington, D. C., where the students experience all that they learn from their history textbook first hand. Eighth grade English includes the application of grammar skills in developing and producing a variety of written forms including personal narrative, persuasive, expository, and poetry.
