First Grade
Within the reading program students begin first grade by building on concepts covered in kindergarten. Students study the basic principles of sounding out simple word sets and to use the text and illustrations around the word to help read unfamiliar words. Students also learn basic grammar principals of writing sentences and to build sentences to express their ideas. In math students learn to read and understand numbers and learn additional and substration concepts.
The first graders learn that the greatest gift God has blessed us with is our lives and families. They learn that God sent is son, Jesus, to teach us about being good people and the Kingdom of God. Through the stories of Jesus' life before the cross, they learn how he helped, healed and taught others. The curriculum closely follows the Liturgical Calendar.
First grade is a fun filled year filled with many opportunities to grow and become true Life Long Learners.
