Kindergarten
Kindergarten is a year of carefully planned experiences designed to help establish readiness for life-long learning. The daily schedule provides a rhythm of activity and calm that includes indoor and outdoor experiences. No matter the curriculum area, lessons begin with concrete experiences that allow students' understanding of concepts to develop. A variety of hands-on activities, group and individual work, and opportunities for creative expression allows students to build knowledge in a variety of ways.
In religion kindergarteners learn about the wonder of God's creation. They learn that they are part of God's family and that they can pray to Him at any time.
In language arts students develop letter recognition, phonics, handwriting, and beginning reading and writing skills.
During math the children explore basic mathematical concepts, practice number skills, and develop beginning reasoning and problem-solving skills. In both social studies and science students learn about the world around them, and their responsibilities in taking care of that world.
Kindergarteners are introduced to technology, art, music, P.E., and Spanish. Development of social skills is equally important as children of varied backgrounds learn to share and play together both inside and outside the classroom. Students learn to get along with classmates, to take turns, and to respect the rights of others. Kindergarten is a year of amazing growth and learning.
