Second grade is a busy year! In religion, students continue to learn about Jesus and the Church to prepare for one of the most important events for second grade, First Reconciliation and Communion.
In English, students learn about sentence structure, grammar, differentiate between fiction and nonfiction stories, discuss story elements such as plot, character, events, and setting, understanding basic punctuation, and use descriptive language. Students work diligently to become fluent readers who comprehend and learn how to read for enjoyment.
Math skills are another important part of the curriculum. Students learn basic math facts, adding and subtracting up to triple digits, time, money, fractions and geometry as well as simple multiplication.
Social Studies teaches second graders how to belong to a community and the many different places that make up our nation.
Science is a great subject for second graders because it is full of fun experiments having to deal with animal life cycles and the Earth.
